Arl24

April 8, 2010

Sessingham, Arlington 24, a bridlegate has just appeared at the main road. Good gate but you will have your backside in the traffic as you open it as it is not the recommended 4m from the roadside.

New report on Arlington 45, Endlewick to Milton Gate

So, ESCC,  is this a footpath or a bridleway? A group of our riders foolishly believed the new Bridleway sign but found it to be  pointing at a style, at several styles, and a footpath sign on the bridleway section. Perhaps we can go round putting up bridleway signs on footpaths? More on new Arlington 45 Description Page.

Frith’s Farm Bridleway. East Hoathly 13  end of this bridleway  has now been added to Description page. There is still the very deep hole in the dangerous gateway at Ailies, about time ESCC filled this in as this is an important path. Have met the landowners at Frith’s Farm who were very pleased to be given advice on how the gate at the cattle grid should be installed and have agreed to alter it. When shown how they immediatyely adjusted the gate to close far slower and will move it back from the grid.

Chalvington

March 31, 2010

Path from  Chalvington to Langtye Lane , BR Chalvington31,32.  An unsuitable gate has suddenly appeared at Langtye Lane.
Too narrow at 1m17, and unsuitable latch.(Pleased to report this has been removed) At north end is a similar width gate also with an unsuitable latch which we have put up with for years but as he has repeated the mistake it is time to get it put right as well . Exiting the farmyard the BR has been diverted at right angles through a narrow pinch point, complete with ESCC direction signs! Was this authorised and if so why? To add insult to injury there is an ESCC notice asking riders to respect farmland. Will ESCC please point out to the farmer that he will get more respect from us if it is reciprocated!

Can you see from these photos why riders of Chalvington cannot access all the bridleways at Arlington and Berwick Reservoir?(Br22)The gate at the bridge was first mentioned to RoW back in 2005!!!!

Byeway at Poundfield Corner, once finished this will open up a whole new world for the riders of the low weald, linking all four major riding areas. Well done so far R-of-W
