Regret pressure of work and doctor’s orders to cut down means this site may not be updated for a few months. Any member want to take over for a while??????????

Chalvington

March 31, 2010

Path from  Chalvington to Langtye Lane , BR Chalvington31,32.  An unsuitable gate has suddenly appeared at Langtye Lane.
Too narrow at 1m17, and unsuitable latch.(Pleased to report this has been removed) At north end is a similar width gate also with an unsuitable latch which we have put up with for years but as he has repeated the mistake it is time to get it put right as well . Exiting the farmyard the BR has been diverted at right angles through a narrow pinch point, complete with ESCC direction signs! Was this authorised and if so why? To add insult to injury there is an ESCC notice asking riders to respect farmland. Will ESCC please point out to the farmer that he will get more respect from us if it is reciprocated!

old news

March 22, 2010

Great News: Work has started to re-open half of Poundfield Corner to no-through road byeway! This is being done to a high specification and should make an excellent all-weather track . Well Done RoW for the first half, excellent job, but not much use to us yet until the remainder is done, hopefully later this year.

More good news: Stream Mill bridge at Chiddingly soon to be re-opened for horses.

Success, soon! (correction, not soon as it is now Six Months since this was brought to the attention of Highways, but don’t worry they are going to have a ‘discussion’ !): Highways agreed to cut back the scrub at the lethal exit of bridleway onto the A22 opposite Nash Street but only half-done as visibility has not been improved . RoW agree it is highly dangerous and more needs to be done by Highways, so let’s hope, maybe in yet another six months if no-one is killed by then. (ESCC take note, there will be hell to pay if there is an accident here)

Success: Highways are to resurface the slippery road outside Golden Cross Equestrian Centre next summer, and have already re-textured the surface, a vast improvement, Well Done Highways.

Success: Veals Farm illegal diversion into an angling lake has been sorted. Errant fingerpost now moved! You can ride up the drive in safety. Ditching works at Broomham end has improved drainage at the two bogs (we need to return when dry to level soft areas and install a culvert). Drainage still needed at the end of the driveway

Warning : ESCC plan to place rubbish landraises across the path from Ripe to Laughton Woods, and across paths from Chiddingly to Broad Farm Hellingly. Links to Broomham map and to Broad Fm Hellingly, showing bridleways at risk. Link to no-landraise.org. The 1st Stage Consultation is now over but continue to ensure ALL cllrs. know your views.
